On Inspiration from “The Life and Times of a Remarkable Misfit” by @AJLeon : A Push In the Right Direction

“Don’t ever stay inside when the stars are kind enough to dance for you.” ~@AJLeon

I just read AJ Leon’s manifesto: The Life and Times of a Remarkable Misfit. An extremely powerful piece of writing. Touching on many things that we hear people say often, but in his case,  through AJ’s passion and conviction you will know it to be true.

I met AJ and Melissa Leon, the brilliance behind Misfit Inc. on the sidewalk just outside the 92nd Street Y after #140conf12 ( The 140 Conference) in New York a few months ago. We spoke only long enough for an introduction, they were passing by quickly, and I was on my way back to Montreal. I regretted not being able to have the time to speak longer, yet, I was incredibly grateful to meet them in person – even if just for a moment. Now, a couple of months later, I had the pleasure of touching upon their incredible work, by way of this manifesto. I originally thought it might cover their work and travel, which are remarkable, but was even more pleased when I realized this was truly AJ’s personal account on how it is possible to change the world. Complete with some clever lists of do’s and don’ts.

What is the secret behind “being the change”?

I write often on how I believe that social media has provided us with a great opportunity for empowerment, more so than ever before in our

The Flinch by @Julien | Leave what you knew behind | Achieve Anything

This is a brilliantly written journey, exposing the truth -> what was put into our being as a tool for survival, what was once the key to our success, in today’s society is one of the greatest hindrances to man kind – unless you dive in to understand The Flinch.

The Flinch by Julien Smith is not just a book, it’s a journey. Written in the style of a hard hitting one on one conversation with the author, it is a smack across the face, a call to action, a revelation.

Somewhere, in reading reviews about this book, which was written as part of Seth Godin‘s Domino Project, I read the comment that “this is not a self help book”. At the time, not having read it yet, I was not sure what that meant. The statement however is strong and true, this book is not about self help, it is not about desperately seeking answers or reaching for help – and yet, when you read it, regardless of who you are, how developed you are, whether you flinch or not, there is something there.

There is something wildly refreshing about having someone sit there and tell you how it is. No matter who you are, this book will speak to you. This book will challenge you.

If you do flinch, which you realize as you read the book, everyone does – then this book may test your limits, may raise your bar to levels you would not have imagined. – or, as Julien suggests in the text, it may make some run. But if you read it no matter who you are, you will be impressed, you will be provoked and you will grow.

Its a quick read, yet the book is the perfect length and holds the perfect pace to drive the point home. When you emerge from reading this, you will know how to instinctively drive success from every moment forward. If you were struggling, it will push you to a new level. If you are already successful, it will show you where you can drive your efforts to go even further.

Complete with “homework”, a checklist and the perfect examples that anyone can relate to, its arguably the most effective book you will ever read teaching you something you will never forget; a gift – how to always achieve, move forward, enjoy life, excel and be the change in this world, be a leader.  This is not a self help book, it’s a book about success, about challenge and overall victory.

Read it yourself, share it with your colleagues, give it to your teenager – start the change – and as I suggested in my New Year’s post for 2012 from here on forward: Be outstanding.
