Social Connections | To Friend or Not To Friend : You had me at Subscribe
My friend and Social Media Consultant, Linda Bernstein came up with a good question on her Facebook status, she wanted to know if people friend people whom they do not know. It’s a great question that many people have varied perspectives on. Some people think of Facebook as a place they are building a community, whereas others keep it simple including only “real life” friends, in some cases, colleagues and co-workers.
Facebook is a very particular social network, and the way one handles it, should be different in strategy as compared to a Google +, Linked In, or Twitter.

Social Strategist and Consultant Gigi Peterkin had a great comment to add to the discussion. You can check her out at http://gigipeterkin.com
Who will you let into your inner circle?
In this post, I am going to focus on the Facebook question as it pertains to individual accounts and not pages.
The first thing I want to clarify here is that Facebook has privacy settings that allow you to keep your information private. Facebook also allows
The Enagaged Mind: 5 Reasons Every Serious Professional Should Use Social Media for Business
Your World Isn’t “The World”
If you want to know the value of social media and social networking for business, you need to be able to agree that your world is limited. That without social media, you live “in a box” – maybe it’s your box, but a box nonetheless. Don’t believe me? Keep reading.
You need to understand that to be the best at what you do, you need to be educated and knowledgeable about what is happening in your field, in the world, with your consumers and your competitors. Surely, you agree with me here.
Take a few moments with me right now, in this post I am going to share with you exactly why social is critical to the leaders in your company. Why taking advantage of the opportunities in social media is critical for you. I am not going to discuss the marketing aspect here. What I am talking about here is personal development, innovation and the tools to always stay on top of your game.
Seduced by the numbers? The Honeymoon is Over.The Value of a Facebook Like {Casestudy}
The biggest challenge faced by social media professionals entering an organization who is at the onset of social media integration will be confronting the popular misconception that “likes” on Facebook & followers on Twitter is the measure of social media success.
When social media first started to gain attention as a new business opportunity, it stands to reason that in absence of true measurement tools, the only number a business or organization could understand easily, and “measure” would be the number of followers, or fans.
Many organizations, due to lack of familiarity or understanding of social, are convinced that there is success in the numbers; that “likes” or followers equal reach, and that if they attain high subscription – whether it be on Twitter, Google Plus, or Facebook – that this will equal success.
The Wrong Numbers.
Social business is still in the early stages, as new technology and strategy intertwine to find stronger measures of success on various levels –
The Social Sometimes Forget to Use Social | Networking | LinkedIn
This post is about recognition and extending the value in our networks and connections to translate into the “real world”.
We are overloaded with Social Networks, we participate actively, we manage our posts, we share on all the right networks, we build our relationships, we find a way to balance everything and we keep moving.
We meet at conferences, we tweet each others praises, we connect. It’s a beautiful thing – but I believe in all this we are all guilty of missing something – the hard evidence. The “Pay it forward” factor that needs to show for the “non-socially oriented”.
Where You Start is Never Where You End Up
Why are we doing this? If you ask me, I started exploring social media for business, I had no intention or idea that what I would find would be a community alive with people who have now become great friends and contacts in fields that interest me, people who have driven support, encouragement and enthusiasm which leads to increased and consistent daily motivation and success.

#140MTL Conference An Introduction by @Milaspage : Bringing the Event to #Montreal #SocialGood #SocialMedia
Why bring this conference to Montreal?
We have a beautiful city, a unique culture, and the idea was that this conference would allow us to bring some wonderful people to discover Montreal, and in turn bring this international event to the Quebec population.
In 2011, as I participated as a broker in the promotion of the Aviva Community Fund, a fantastic initiative that allows non-profit organizations to compete using social media for a piece of a 1 Million Dollar give away, I tried to reach out to local non-profits to help them get involved in the contest, and obtain funding for their causes. Through these efforts, I became aware that so few knew how to work Social Media and among those who tried, they had not set up their “online community” which made finding sufficient support for their causes too difficult, they did not have the resources and they could not generate support fast enough to make it through the elimination

If You Don’t “Get” Social – Read This | #socialmedia #marketing #in
This is part of my series “I Don’t Get Social” inspired by some conversations I had at an industry event, where it became really evident to me, people really don’t get Social. It’s become far more complicated than it really is. Perspectives – I’d like to shed some light, bring some awesome people and companies into the Social World by bringing it down to the basics.
Have some thoughts on this? Join in on the comments, lets bring more Social into the world and clear up these misconceptions.
Overheard: “I am doing Social – I sell online”
Selling online is not “Social” its internet sales.
- Can people talk to you via your web site or online in any way?
- If they have a question, can they get access to your customer service people or have a conversation online?
- Can they share what you are selling them on with their networks? Can they tell people about how much they like you? How easy do you make it for them?
The definition of Social implies interaction. What’s the interaction with your online form? Answer that, then
Strategies in Social Media – Learning the Ropes & Expanding Horizons
If you look up a definition for Social Media, you are going to find what is probably the broadest collection of definitions of any word. It would be like asking the question, what’s the best food on earth. Always a different perspective and approach to the answer. I tried the exercise for myself, here is a great example of what you might find from “The Social Media Guide” a whole collection of definitions, all centering around the same idea, but all slightly different in how they identify the key attributes and in who has written the definition.
If you are in business and trying to understand how to use Social Media, anyone you ask will
